                                      Opening Up Your Swimming Pool For the First Time –Read This

A lot of us are seasoned pros when it comes to maintaining our swimming pools. It's almost like second nature. Like riding a bicycle, or brewing your coffee in the morning. I can do that with my eyes shut. But for a lot of newbie's or even people that have only owned their swimming pools for a couple of years it's a struggle still every year when its time to open their swimming pools. Well read on, here are a few tips on opening your swimming pool for the upcoming season. First thing of course is to remove the cover removing any debris and pumping off any water that has accumulated over the winter season. Make sure you clean your pool cover off and dry it before you put it away so any mold or mildew will not build up on it.

Remove all the freeze plugs and devices you have installed in protecting your swimming pool from freezing. All of these items will have to be removed before you go to your next step. It is now time to start up your pool pump and pool filter. If you didn't clean it when you closed the pool last year, do it now. Prime your swimming pool pump and start er-up. You will hear a lot of action in your plumbing because of the air that has been trapped in the pipes. Make sure you release any built up pressure before opening up your equipment. When running, go around and check for any leaks. Time to clean the pool. If you had a mesh pool cover, there will be dirt and debris in the pool. Scoop out debris with a leaf net, and vacuum the rest. If you had solid cover it should be relatively clean. If not, check for a hole or improper installation of that cover.

Add necessary water to get the level to halfway up your pool skimmer openings. Then you must let your pump run for ½ a day to let the new water circulate with the old. After that is done you can check your water balance and add your swimming pool chemicals. The best thing to do is bring a water sample to your local pool professional for analysis. If you don't know be sure to follow their procedures so you don't damage any of your swimming pool surfaces. Install all ladders and handrails if you have them. Please make sure you inspect your diving board before you let anyone use it. Look for any stress-cracks and if you find a single one, replace your diving board. If you have tiles around the top of your pool clean them with baking soda only. You should never use any abrasives or cleaners in your pool. Most people with swimming pools desire privacy, safety, convenience and beauty in their swimming pool landscaping. Plants are very popular in swimming pool landscaping and are frequently used as a major part of the overall landscaping design. Plants can soften any harshness associated with the design of your swimming pool as well as creating shade and privacy around your pool. How To Backwash Your Sand Filter

 

 

Backwashing is typically the last step in pool cleaning but it is a very important one. Because if you don't backwash the dirt it stay's in your tank and your water will become dirty much faster.

Fiberglass Swimming Pools

In my previous article, I talked about swimming pool covers. While covers are significant, it is also significant to pick the kind of substance that the pool will consist of. If you are considering an in ground swimming pool, there are various choices like concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. I will talk about fiberglass swimming pools in this article.

Fiberglass, as the name shows, are small fibers of glass that strengthen with a polymer ensuing in a composite substance. Since it is composed of small fibers, fiberglass can be formed into any function and worked into any form. It is very smooth, does not fade or allow algae to collect. It is a sturdy material, must sturdier than concrete or vinyl. Because of its assets, it is especially fitted for the job of fiberglass swimming pools.

Fiberglass vs. Concrete Pools

You can anticipate replacing your vinyl liner approximately every 6-7 years at around $3k-$5k. Fiberglass swimming pools are hard unified pieces that are not dependent on stretching. Fiberglass does not tear or rip, resists sun fading. They are model in enormously bright weather areas.

One other note is for the daily care of the swimming pool. Fiberglass swimming pools are very smooth, much more than concrete or vinyl, so they need less disinfecting chemicals to keep the water clean. Fiberglass is also good at keeping heat in (in fact it was originally used for insulation), much better than concrete or vinyl, so it is also a heating money saver. You really can't go wrong with fiberglass.

What's not to like?

There are several factors that can go against selecting fiberglass swimming pools. First, they can be much more expensive than concrete or especially vinyl. Second, there has been concern of fiberglass fibers suspended in the pool that can cause itching and discomfort. Third, in very soggy or marshy areas, the fiberglass shell can actually float or be pushed out of the ground. Fourth, because fiberglass needs the surrounding ground to support the pool, it is not used in above ground swimming pools. Last, not all pool professionals may be experienced with installing fiberglass swimming pools. Make sure to have a good reference when choosing an installer.

Even though fiberglass swimming pools may be more expensive, you will likely find that you make that money back care, maintenance and installation.
