Water Features: Adding soft lighting to ponds, bird baths, fountains or other water features provides a serene and peaceful feel to your patio, pool area or backyard. Use it to spice up pool parties and add an extra element of fun!
Sculptures:  From friendly forest creatures to impressive stone or ceramics, you can utilize lighting to accentuate the beauty of and create the right ambiance for your outdoor exhibits.
Outdoor Sound Systems
Integrating sound into your outdoor entertainment experience is an exciting trend that everyone can enjoy.  Whether you have a small patio or a complete walking path in your backyard you can enjoy outdoor sound options to suit your particular lifestyle.

Sound Systems: Things to Consider

Waterproofing: When looking for pool area speakers, be sure to find well protected equipment that will resist water damage at the connectors, the wiring, and the power receptacles.

Receivers: Choose a high quality receiver that can support around ten speakers. With this type of flexibility you have the option to make adjustments depending for your specific needs.

Concealment: You can utilize planters or ceramic rocks to conceal your outdoor speakers so the sound is still perfect but the technology is carefully hidden from view.

Party Placement: Consider the best placement of outdoor speakers for optimal sound. Wireless speakers can work great in these situations with the right speaker positions.

Everything You Need to Know About Swimming Pool Services

Your pool is a superb escape during sizzling summer days for you and your family, but a person's outdoor oasis requires a great deal of work. There are pH levels to take into account, chemicals to add and filters to be emptied. Though some people will be willing to devote the time to perfect this balancing act of routine maintenance, several prefer to retain a pool service to tackle chemicals and skim leaves. Prior to employing a service, however, there tend to be a number of elements an individual must keep in mind.

But what exactly does a pool service do?

A few pool owners go for a do it yourself system in pool care, but some find it worth it to employ another person. Knowing what services the pool company supplies is definitely vital in determining just how to deal with the servicing connected with your swimming pool.

The majority of swimming pool companies provide similar servicing duties, many on a weekly time frame. Several of these types of duties may well include things like retaining the pool's appearance by scrubbing up walls and steps and skimming trash off of the water's surface, maintaining equipment in operating order and balancing the chemical compounds throughout the pool. Some services also provide swimming pool installation. You should take a look at whether your pool installers perform swimming pool services also, since if they do, this is actually the finest quality service an individual can find. These individuals already know your pool and consequently, these people understand how to take care of it in the greatest possible way.

If perhaps you do not keep your pool available year round, a pool service company can also open and close your pool for an added cost. Opening a pool involves the removing of the cover, a chlorine treatment, re-installing the pump and filter, as well as the ladders and diving board. Shutting down the pool calls for empyting water out of the water pump, taking off the ladder and diving board and ultimately covering the pool.

How much will these services cost?

Lots of companies provide primary services for close to $145 a month with swimming pool openings and closings from $100 to $150 each time, yet a few swimming pool owners quote up to $400 for monthly services. The price of pool services is remarkably variable, with numerous adding elements. Here are some questions to ask yourself when determining the price:

Just how large is your swimming pool? The size of your pool impacts just how many gallons of water have got to be treated with chemicals as well as just how long the swimming pool guys will have to brush off walls and steps, therefore when you currently have a big swimming pool, you might be charged more for chemicals and man hours.

Just what exactly are the usage and circumstances of your swimming pool? Elements like the consistency of utilization along with just how much trash falls into your swimming pool may signify more or less appointments from your swimming pool service in a month.

Exactly where do you reside? The location in which you actually reside can have a large impact on the cost of pool maintenance. Many swimming pool providers in your region can produce more aggressive costs. Fuel and chemical costs furthermore influence service prices, because the pool provider may factor that straight into their fee.

Exactly what type of equipment does your swimming pool have? Swimming pools have distinct filter systems, skimmers and vacuum cleaners that influence the consistency of servicing the pool will require. Excess equipment including heaters and lights may suggest more repair phone calls to the service.

Things to Consider Before Hiring

Selecting the incorrect service can be a expensive oversight. Though there tend to be quite a few excellent providers out there, swimming pool maintenance can be a transient business. In advance of choosing, be positive that the service is covered by insurance and knowledgeable. How long has the company been around? Are they a part of an honest business association? Do a little investigation prior to hiring.

Interviewing the provider is also essential to be sure that they have competent employees. Are these people knowledgeable with regards to your pool's equipment? If you have a heated pool, does the provider understand how to repair the heater if it breaks? Do they understand the important maintenance pertaining to your specific filtration system? All these are concerns to think about.

Finally, it is important to look around. Assess fees and services of different providers. Consult neighbors asking what provider they employ. Choosing to retain the services of a company can take away the burden of taking care of the overall health of your pool, but hiring the inappropriate one can turn out to be even far more of a problem. Consider all of the specifics and make your decision properly.

Patio Furniture & Landscaping Around Your Pool
By: Berni Wideman

From outdoor furniture to storage areas, the items you choose to include in your backyard should complement your outdoor living experience. Here are a few options to consider:

Patio Furniture

Kick back and relax with outdoor furniture that fits your particular taste and comfort levels.  There is a wide variety of outdoor furniture choices available for you.

Big parties: For those who love to entertain, consider having outdoor furniture to accommodate a lot of guests without over-crowding your entertainment area.  Choose bar stools, lounges, and even large bed-lounges as well as cushioned chairs and tables for dining or socializing.

Different Materials: There are several materials to choose from, the most popular being teak, redwood, cedar, iron, and wicker.  Create a foundation that is consistent and then add variances of colors where appropriate.

Wheels: Adding wheels to your furniture can help you to organize and re-design on a whim.  Plus the wheels make it easy to move furniture to safety in the event of a storm.

Landscaping

Plants: Choose from different plants that will work well in your climate while making your outdoor landscape shine.  Consider using large planters, interchanging plants throughout the year to match the seasons.  You can incorporate hanging plants, garden trees and other ideas.  Having a spice garden near your outdoor kitchen is a great idea to consider.  One thing you don’t want around your pool are plants that lose their leaves in the fall because they will go right in your pool and can stain the pool and create a lot of work.

Stones: Rock gardens can be extremely beautiful.  Choose stones that blend with the colors of your landscape design and use different sizes and shapes.  Some may have a circular area with rounded stones as the base and then a bird bath or sun dial in the middle.  Open up your inner Zen and let your creativity flow.

Storage: Implement storage containers that blend into your outdoor environment but also serve a practical purpose to store tools, hoses and other items.

Is an automatic pool cleaner worth the money?

One of the most common questions that comes up with potential pool buyers is are automatic pool cleaners worth the money?  Much like vacuum cleaners for your house pool cleaners vary in price from less than $200 to well over $1,000 depending on what features you want and which brand you purchase.

Before jumping in and buying the top of the line pool cleaner you should ask yourself a few questions about what you hope the pool cleaner will do.  If you want a pool cleaner that keeps your pool spotless without you doing anything you may be disappointed.   Pool cleaners can be a great investment and save you time cleaning the pool but they aren't an end all to maintaining your pool.  The basic function of an automatic pool cleaner is cleaning the floor of the pool and  some of the more expensive pool cleaners will even clean your walls and steps.

Pool cleaners fall into three categories suction powered, pressure powered and electric powered.  The electric powered pool cleaners are typically more expensive and are much more effective than they were years ago.  They run off of an electrical cord that plugs into a standard home outlet and once submerged in the pool they begin going to work.

Pressure powered pool cleaners spray a force of water to stir up debris into a bag they carry and at the end of the pool cleaning when you remove the pool cleaner; you empty the bag of debris.  Many pressure powered pool cleaners require a separate booster pump that must be installed at the time of the pool installation for the pool cleaner to operate effectively.

Suction powered pool cleaners are among the least expensive types of pool cleaners available.  An added benefit from suction powered pool cleaners is that they are operated by your existing filter system so while they are cleaning your pool they are also great for circulating your water.  While they are traveling the bottom of your pool they are sucking in the cold water then they send it through your return jets to the top of the water for the sun to heat it back up.

So to answer the question are automatic pool cleaners worth the money?  Absolutely, all three types have their own pros and cons depending on your needs and budget but every pool owner should have an automatic pool cleaner.

How to Choose Beaded Or Overlap Swimming Pool Liners For Above Ground Pools

Swimming pool liners are an integral part of above ground swimming pools. While pool liners are made to withstand harsh weather and heavy usage for many years, it's unavoidable that they will eventually need to be replaced. When choosing a new liner for your above ground swimming pool, there are certain steps you will need to take in order to ensure that you purchase the right liner for your pool. While you always have to keep function in mind when shopping for above ground swimming pool liners, it's also important to think about style. With an array of attractive patterns and designs available, above ground pool liners can set the tone for the decor of your outdoor space or pool area.

When you're in the market for a new pool liner, the first step is to determine the type of liner that your pool requires. Above ground swimming pools are designed to accommodate either beaded pool liners or overlap pool liners. The difference between the two types is how they are installed at the top of the pool wall. Beaded pool liners have a groove that runs along the liner's entire top edge. When installing beaded liners, the groove snaps into a track that goes along the top inside edge of the pool wall. This track is also known as a bead receiver and serves to secure the liner. If your swimming pool is designed to accommodate a beaded liner, the track will be visible when you look under the top rail located on the inside of the swimming pool.

On the other hand, your pool may be designed for overlap pool liners. These liners are installed by removing the pool's top rail and draping the liner's fabric over the walls. Plastic clips are then used to hold the liner in place along the top of the wall. Once that is done, the top rails are replaced. If there is excess liner hanging down on the outside of the pool walls, it can simply be trimmed off. If your above ground swimming pool is meant to accommodate an overlap liner, you should be able to see the liner hanging down on the outside of the pool if you look under the top rail.

Once you know whether you should be looking at beaded pool liners or overlap pool liners, the next step is to determine what size and shape your new liner needs to be in order to fit your pool. Most retailers offer both types of liners for round above ground swimming pools and oval above ground swimming pools. To determine the proper size for your beaded or overlap liner, simply check the specifications in the material that came with your pool when you purchased it or use a measuring tape to carefully measure on your own.

After you have figured out the type, shape and size that your new liner will need to be, it's time to start thinking about quality and price ranges. Vinyl above ground pool liners are available in a number of different grades. The various grades refer to the thickness and durability of the liner. Naturally, the thicker the liner, the more likely it is to withstand wear and tear and last longer. However, thicker liners will also be more expensive. Although it's typically worth it to invest in a more durable liner, everyone has different budgets and should choose according to their needs and means. The grade or thickness of a liner is usually presented as its gauge. The higher the gauge, the thicker the liner.

Having taken care of all the practical choices in determining the type, size, shape, quality and price range of your new swimming pool liner, it's time to move on to the most fun step of thinking about style. Beaded above ground pool liners and overlap pool liners are available in a multitude of eye-catching designs and patterns that will add a bright splash of color and class to your swimming pool and outdoor area. While all types of above ground swimming pool liners are available in solid blue, you can also choose from designs that will make your pool look like it is lined with tiles or stones. Other available design choices include aquarium patterns featuring brightly colored fish and a variety of different swirl patterns. With such a great selection of attractive designs to choose from, it's easy to use above ground pool liners to add a special stamp to your pool and backyard.

Once you have purchased a new swimming pool liner for your above ground pool, you will have to decide whether you are going to have the liner professionally installed or whether you will install it on your own. Keep in mind that installation may not be as easy as it looks and that the function and durability of your liner can be compromised if not installed properly. As a result, it's often a good idea to carefully watch and observe a professional liner installation before attempting to carry one out on your own.

Michael Peterson is an experienced specialist in pool installation and maintenance. He explains how to buy above ground pool liners and choose between beaded pool liners and overlap swimming pool liners.
