Swimming Pool Safety Guidelines

Swimming pool safety is the main component for happy swimming  Swimming is a very old leisure pursuit. From the distant past to recent history it is one of the most pleasurable and wholesome leisure activities. In olden times being able to swim was acknowledged to be a necessity for a well brought up person. Today, swimming pools are a major attraction in both vacation and work times and swimming pool safety as well as the proper pool chemical use are the primary ingredients for a good time swimming.

Clarity

Part of the appeal of a swimming pool is its clear sparkling water. Opaque or off color water is not inviting to dive into and may be dangerous. You would never dive into a vat of poison, so make sure your swimming pool is as clean as it is beautiful.

The proper pool chemicals keep the ph balance correct, this helps minimise overall chemical use These need to be tested daily and used every week to be most efficient.

Safety with Chemicals

Pool chemical levels need to be correct for the healthiest and safest pool for children. Pool chemicals should be kept in a cool, dry place. Don't swim in your pool for at least one hour after you have altered the chemical balance in your pool.

Remember:Don't ever mix swimming pool chemicals with other swimming pool chemicals. fire or explosion can result.

If you don't use your pool in the winter, there are steps you must take to close down your pool, but more important there are special pool chemicals to use when you are ready to swim again. You will need to bring the ph back up to around 8 this must be maintained during the summer. Germs can grow if the ph balance isn't correct in a swimming pool.  Too much chlorine is also unhealthy.  The ph balance can be kept correct by the proper pool chemicals.

Safety

All the adults and children who are swimming should be aware of safety in swimming pools.

Swimming Pool Safety, particularly with Children:

A high fence around the pool that has a secure gate will protect small children from wandering in to see the shimmering water and falling in. Make sure toddlers can't climb over the fence.

Of course, swimming pools were made to be used so a good barrier is just the first step. Adults need to know the non swimmers around the pool. When a party is by the pool the best safety precaution is an adult watching the splashing children, preferably an adult who has had lessons in swimming pool safety, CPR and lifesaving. An adult should be within touching distance of any child who is under three year's old or is a non swimmer. It is always good for anyone under three or non swimmers to wear some kind of floatation device. When it is not possible to always be near swimmers or children playing by a pool it is good to have a long pole or life preserver so anyone can reach someone who is too far away to touch. Even someone who doesn't swim can do this.

Paddling Pools

Safety is also important for paddling pools for very young children They may not need pool chlorine granules or other swimming pool chemicals because the water might be changed frequently but remember:Swimming pool safety is just as important even when the water is very shallow because even one inch can be dangerous for a toddler.

Be sure to empty the pool when there is no adult to watch the children. Swimming pool safety needs diligence from every adult present by the pool. Taking precautions like these means that, your swimming session can be more enjoyable because it is anxiety free and there is no risk of tragedy.

Swimming Pool Ladders - An Essential Piece of Pool Equipment

Swimming pool ladders can be found on almost any type of swimming pool. Ladders are essential parts of swimming pools, because they are the way in which you enter and exit the pool. There are many different types of ladders, for both above ground and in ground swimming pools. Pool ladders also come in a variety of materials including aluminum, vinyl, plastic, stainless steel, and resin.

There aren't many color choices when it comes to swimming pool ladders, but beware that painting them can be dangerous. Some pool ladders come with materials on the steps to prevent skidding when the surface becomes wet. Assembly of a pool ladder shouldn't be too difficult, so long as the instructions are followed. Swimming pool ladders can be found in department stores or on the internet, in addition to in pool supply stores. In addition, many ladders will include a warranty.

In ground swimming pools generally don't require a ladder of more than 5 steps, but of course this depends on the depth of the water and the placement of the ladder. A swimming pool ladder should be selected that is the correct size and shape for your pool. Steps or a ladder may have been formed during the installation on a concrete pool, however fiberglass pools will require a ladder to be installed afterwards. Be sure that the pool ladder is secured at both ends, to help prevent injuries during use.

Above ground pools are different than in ground pools, however, when it comes to ladders. If you have a deck surrounding the pool, then the ladder can lead from the deck into the pool, or it can be solely attached to the pool. It is easier and more secure, however, to build the ladder from the deck. A properly secured pool ladder will help prevent injuries and keep everyone safe.

Swimming pool ladders for above ground pools are typically between 2 and 4 steps in height, depending on the size of the pool. Since smaller children sometimes have trouble climbing the pool ladder, you may want to install a larger one than what you would normally use so they will have an easier time getting in and out of the pool. A deck may reduce the number of ladder steps needed to enter the pool as well.

A swimming pool ladder is an essential piece of equipment for any pool owner to have. Getting in and out of an above ground pool would be nearly impossible without the aid of a ladder. Although adults and teenagers may be able to exit from the side of an in ground pool, smaller children will still need a ladder to help them get in and out. Swimming Pool Alarm - How to Have Peace of Mind About Your Swimming Pool When No One's Around

Summer is here and this means going swimming, especially to kids. Unfortunately there are not as many swimming holes as we used to have, so people are turning to pools - usually in their own yard.

And with the price of gasoline skyrocketing, more and more people are staying home and are getting swimming pools in their yard to have a vacation at home.

Yes, swimming is a lot of fun and it's great exercise. But pools can also be very dangerous because of the threat of drowning, especially to children.

Did you know that drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death of children?

It only takes about two minutes without oxygen to lose consciousness and within four to six minutes without oxygen, a child can have irreversible brain damage.

Does that get your attention? Good, because the way to ensure that kids are safe in and around a swimming pool is to have complete supervision when they're swimming.

But what about when your pool is 'closed' and no one is allowed to swim because there is no adult supervision? How can you be sure that no one tries to sneak in for a swim?

Now there's a gadget called a Pool Alarm that can be turned on when your pool is closed. The Pool Alarm comes with a remote receiver which can be placed in your home up to 200 feet from the main unit that is placed at the pool side.

The Pool Alarm can be a life saver because it is mounted to the side of the pool and has an electronic sensor that detects any agitation in the water other than ripples caused by the wind. When triggered, the Pool Alarm will give off a very loud noise around the pool as well as at the receiver placed inside your home.

That means that if the Pool Alarm detects any splashes in the water (other than those caused by wind) it will set off the alarm. Now if one of your children or anyone else tries to sneak a swim in your pool -- or even if your dog falls in -- then the alarm will notify you so you can get to the pool immediately. Then you can yell at the kids and explain how dangerous it is to swim alone.

If you have a pool in your yard you have to always be on the alert so that no children are swimming unsupervised. You also want to be assured that no one is in or near your pool without your knowledge. A Pool Alarm is your first line of notification that someone is fooling around in your pool.

One other thing -- make sure you instruct everyone in your family and in fact, everyone who uses your pool about safety. There are good signs available that you can place near your pool with swimming rules.

There are plenty of swimming pool accessories that you can find to make you and your family have even more fun in the pool. Swimming around is fun enough, but sometimes you want something else to do in the water. Not only that, but there are just some things that you expect to see in a pool. Why just use your pool to swim? You have something close to a whole slew of activities to do right in your own backyard pool.

Some swimming pool accessories are extremely in common. For example, goggles and snorkels, lounging floats, floating tubes, and water noodles are all common. Almost every pool in the country has one or two of these items regularly used in it. If you do not have any of these items, you may want to consider purchasing one or two to make the swimming pool experience more fun for you and your family.

However, there are some swimming pool accessories that are less common. Pool games for example are not very common, but they are extremely fun and everybody has a blast with them. Also, if you have pets enjoy swimming, you can get grants for your pets the Internet of your pool easily. This can be great if you have a dog who just loves to swim but has difficulty entering and exiting the pool. This also be great if your dog is quite heavy, especially when wet.

If you have quite a few water noodles, you could get a noodle organizer. These are simply circular or square shaped bins sustain your noodles upright. If you have a lot of children, and hence a lot of noodles, this is a good accessory for you to add to your pool set up. Also, if your children like to dive underwater but have I paid for hours after diving under the chlorine filled water, but a pair of goggles would be perfect for them to have. This way, they can still see underwater and play any games the maybe had, but they do not have to deal with the pain that would otherwise last for hours after they got out of the pool.

Consider what you in your family to do in your swimming pool and choose accessories accordingly. If something feels lacking, they can probably find an accessory relatively affordably. Most pool accessories are inexpensive and easy to set up or use. Swimming is always fun, but having other things to do in your pool is even better. Swimming pool accessories can make time in the water even more fun for you, your children, and anyone else that happens to swim in your pool. Why just swim when can do so much else?

Swimming is always a fun activity, but if you have a pool in your backyard there is so much more you can do than just swim. Getting some fun swimming pool accessories can make your fun in the sun all that much more enjoyable.

Swimming pools can be such a joy in the summer. You can tan, exercise, hang out, and just relax around the water. Some people choose to build a personal pool at home for these reasons. Others opt for the community pool instead. Either way, swimming pools are actually ripe with danger to you and and those you love. However, it is not always clear as to who is liable for those accidents. This article will look at some hazards around the pool and who might be responsible for the tragedies that can arise.

There are a number of things that can happen in the water or poolside, including drowning or near-drowning, slips and falls, disembowelment, diving board injuries, and others. There are also a variety of people who can be held liable for accidents that happen around a pool, including the injured himself, a caregiver or parent, the owner of the pool, the construction company who built the pool, etc. Depending on what the actual accident entailed, there might be no one held liable or up to several people held responsible for the accident.

According to premises liability laws, the owner of a pool, whether it is a personal pool or that of a neighborhood, hotel, gym, etc., is in charge of maintaining the health and safety standards at a pool. This includes making sure that everything is working properly, the chemicals are properly balanced, nothing is broken or rusty, and other issues. However, an owner of a pool may not know if the company who built the pool did not properly grade a deck, leading to water buildup and an extra slippery surface.

Someone who is invited or licensed to be at a pool should expect the pool to be safe. If one of these guests is injured, they are less likely to be held liable for their own accident than a trespasser. If someone breaks into a pool uninvited and sustains an injury, they may not get any financial compensation for an injury. For instance, a homeowner may lock up his own pool because it is in the process of draining. If a person breaks into the pool and decides to trespass and swim, they can get disemboweled by the drain. However, the homeowner had the pool closed up expressly for protecting people from the drain.

Of course, a swimming pool owner is supposed to properly maintain his or her drain. If it is not covered or is turned up too strong when guests come over, the owner may be held liable if someone gets injured due to its suction. At community pools, improperly trained lifeguards and broken things in or around the pool can cause harm to someone, and they are usually the responsibility of the homeowner's association or whoever owns the community pool.

When going swimming, either at your own pool, that of a friend, or at the neighborhood spot, the best idea is to be smart about your fun. If you are bringing young children to the swim, be sure to keep a close eye on them to help keep the safe.
