5 Things to Keep In Mind When Designing Your Pool

Above ground or in-ground? Concrete or fiberglass? When it comes to pools, homeowners are definitely spoiled for choice. Think about:

1.      What size and depth you want the pool to be

2.       What shape the pool should be (rectangular or a more custom design/shape?)

3.       How the pool will be used

The best way to start generating ideas of what your “dream pool” will be is to check out our portfolio featuring our past pool designs and creations. Write down the shape, size, location, and any other features or design elements that you like.

Ideally the pool should be close to the home and in a sunny spot with no trees nearby. Keep in mind that while a flat space may be the easiest place to put a pool, the land you choose does not necessarily need to be flat for pool installation.

Also commonly referred to as a “restrictive covenant”, many homeowners are surprised to find that the property they bought actually has limitations on what can and cannot be built on the property, which may include a pool. Make sure you’re legally allowed to build a pool, or contact a lawyer about changing the deed restriction.

Depending on the style, shape and size of your pool, the amount that you can expect to pay for your pool can widely vary. The two most important things to think about are:

4.      What do I need to pay for now (during pool construction)
5.   What can I add on later

Also consider how many additional features added now may save you in expenses if they were to be added later. For instance, a gazebo can easily be added any time, but underwater lighting - which can also be added any time – is more expensive if added after the pool’s already built rather than while the pool is being constructed.

Once you have a clear vision and expectation of what you want from your pool, the final step is to schedule an appointment. Your pool company will survey your grounds and share their own tips and suggestions to make sure that you get exactly what you want and at a price you can afford.  Call today to start living a fun lifestyle!
