Pool noodle

A pool noodle (also known as a water log or woggle in the UK) is a cylindrical piece of polyethylene foam, sometimes hollow. Pool noodles are used by people of all ages while swimming.
Pool noodles are useful when learning to swim for floating, for rescue reaching, in various forms of water play, and for aquatic exercise. The most common dimensions are about 5'3" in length and 2.5" in diameter.
There are several pool noodle connectors on the market. One connector is a piece of pipe made out of foam, slightly larger than a pool noodle so that it can connect two pool noodles by encasing the end of each. The other connector is made of food grade polypropylene and manufactured in the USA.
This noodle connector comes in the form of an erector set that is screwed into the cavity or center of the foam noodle and attaches to a 6 sided noodle connector. This allows larger structures to be built from pool noodles. There exist at least two-, four- and six-hole foam connectors and a variety of polypropylene connector parts that enable users to build all types of structures and designs.
Pool noodles are actually nearly identical to industrial and residential foam insulation for pipes, the only difference being the industrial use version of the technology is a denser foam and has a structural reinforcement outer layer. People have used pool noodles as cheaper versions of the industrial pipe insulation inside buildings at a substantial cost savings, as the industrial version is about twice to four times as expensive.
Medieval warfare often makes extensive use of pool noodle with such cores for foam weapons.  It is generally the least expensive form of construction available and very easy to make into a safe weapon, however pool noodle foam is more prone to break down with extended use than other types of foam.
Modern Martial artists occasionally use pool noodles as test cutting targets, in lieu of more expensive targets like meat or tatami mats.
First Robotics Competitions use the foam from pool noodles as a bumper to protect the robots from damage during collisions.
A pool noodle is also used in the drinking game "blowhole," in which a hollow pool noodle is filled with 4-8 oz. of beer and two contestants simultaneously blow into the noodle in order to spray their opponent with beer.

Pool Fencing Options

Depending on your aesthetic preference, your budget and restrictions by local code and/or your homeowners association, there are several different types of pool fencing options, including wood, aluminum and vinyl (PVC).

Wood
Wood fencing is a more economical option for enclosing your swimming pool. It provides the option for low or high level of privacy with different alternatives for styling, including picket and post tops cut into the wood. Wood fencing typically needs to be replaced every 7-12 years and requires regular maintenance such as semi-annual sealing, painting and possible picket replacement.

Aluminum fencing offers the same beauty and protection of wrought iron without the extra maintenance. With aluminum fencing you can enhance the beauty of your backyard with a variety of color options such as black, bronze, white, sandstone and hunter green. You can also choose to add accessories such as finials, post caps and scrolls for additional customization and design. Aluminum fencing requires little to no maintenance and can outlast most other fencing options.

Vinyl fencing, also known as PVC fencing, is a great low maintenance alternative to wood fencing. Available in white, tan, gray and mix & match colors, PVC allows you the flexibility to choose the color that complements your backyard retreat. With regular washing, PVC fencing can last up to 20 years.
