How to Build Great Above Ground Swimming Pools

If you have always wanted a pool, why not install a relatively inexpensive above ground swimming pool. Above ground pools are one of the easiest and cost effective ways to get a pool, but there are a few things you have to consider first before starting out to buy your pool.

Firstly, choose a nice level spot that should be slightly in higher in elevation than its surroundings. Give a 10-foot distance between your above ground swimming pool and the nearest power line. Don't choose a shaded spot under trees because the leaves will fall into the pool and the water won't be as warm as it would be under the full sun.

Secondly, remove loose wet soil and grass from the base of your above ground swimming pool. Use a flat shovel to scrape of the soil. It would help a lot to sharpen the edge of the shovel. When using the shovel, try to keep it as close to the horizontal line as you can to make sure you don't dig holes into the area. A sod cutter would speed up the work.

The size of the above ground swimming pool will really depend first, on how much area you can appropriate from your own property. Determine the largest area possible in your property. You will need clearance on the main side of the pool plus three feet on all sides. Working from the biggest area possible and with an eye on your budget, determine the kind of above ground swimming pool you will want to buy. Naturally a smaller budget will get a smaller or lower quality pool. But if your resources are more than sufficient, think about the maximum number of people who will be using the pool at one time. If the land area you chose won't squeeze the bathers into each other's shoulders then your size selection is great. Otherwise, you will just have to limit the number of bathers at any one time.

You will want your above ground swimming pool to last. So, if you can help it, go for a more expensive high-quality pool with branded accessories (filter and pump). also try to get a 20-year warranty on it.

Most ready-to-assemble above ground swimming pools come with an installation manual. This allows you to install the pool yourself. If you do regular maintenance on your pool it stands to last for decades. That is, if you don't forget to cover it in winter.

The base your above ground swimming pool should not be padded with a lot of sand because sand doesn't compact as well as soil. The ideal ground for the pool base would be a mixture of soft, compact able soil and a little sand to give it firmness. Alternatively you can purchase a foam pad or gorilla bottom. These are materials specially designed as pads for your above ground swimming pool.

Something to watch out for is the possibility that the above ground swimming pool will prevent your yard from draining properly. Some pool owners mistake the flooding of their yard as a sign that the pool is leaking. Most often, it is not. All you need do to remove the clogged water is to create a drainage ditch to draw the water from the high side to a lower side and onto your main drainage if possible.

Tanik Nertt tries to buck the trend whenever he has the chance. Wearing classy, but different, clothing is just one way he enjoys being different. In his off time, Joseph has written a site with reviews of pink bow tie, as well as a review of purple bow tie.

Vanishing Edge and Beach Entry Pools
By: Berni Wideman

Building your custom swimming pool, it is important to consider what sorts of options you want to have.  Two of the most popular trends is the vanishing edge and beach entry pools. Both come with their own set of benefits which makes them stand out from your run of the pool. Let’s have a look at the features:

Vanishing Edge Pools: Extravagant  and Tranquil

Often the type of pools are referred to as an “infinity pool” or a “negative edge” pool. This style of pool gets its name from its unique “overflow” design as the water flows right on over the edge, giving the impression of the waters of the pool extending out for miles. Depending on where the pool is located, swimmers are treated to the sense that the pool is part of the ocean or sea or that they may be on the verge of toppling over a large waterfall (i.e. if the pool is located on an upper level of a high rise building).

These pools are attractive to almost any surroundings and they’re also functional. Vanishing edge pools can be used for exercise, for recreational purposes, and are suitable for all ages.  Families with small children can enjoy them because a wading area can be created  just for them.

Beach Entry or Tanning Deck Pools: Casual and Easy

This type of pool is also referred to as a “zero depth entry pool.  They are an ideal choice for anyone with kids, disabled persons or seniors who may struggle with navigating stairs into and out of a pool. The shallow entry creates a “wading” or lounging area that is suitable for those of any age.

Beach entry pools not only offer a safer way to get into the pool, but they can be amazingly attractive. The sloped entry is far more safer than stairs or a ladder, and they complement the natural beauty of your backyard or patio area.

What Will It Cost To Keep My Pool Efficient and Maintain It?

Every pool has a significant initial investment as well as ongoing maintenance, upkeep, and repair costs. While a swimming pool does not last forever, if you do take regular preventative measures, maintain a water chemistry balance, and complete other pool upkeep tasks, you will greatly extend the life of the pool. Are you wondering what to consider when planning your pool budget? The primary monthly components include energy, chemical and water usage, and pool maintenance.
As you begin calculating your monthly payment, keep in mind that every pool is different. Many pools include capacity for adjusting flow, pump performance, and energy consumption. It is worth taking the time to learn how to adjust these levels to reach an optimal balance.

Energy
A pool with a standard one and a half to two HP motor will cost anywhere from $60 to $80 per month depending on the pool size. Older pools often have motors that are too large and consequently draw more energy. It used to be popular opinion that bigger pumps were better, which simply isn't true.

Water and Chemical Usage
A monthly water bill is largely dependent on how efficiently you use the water in your pool and the water rates in your specific area. For an average 12,000 gallon pool, a monthly water bill for the pool use alone can run $20 to $30 per month or more. This cost range may differ for pools of different sizes. Chemical usage can run anywhere from $20 to $30 per month to $50 or more.

Pool Maintenance
Some people opt to complete pool maintenance tasks themselves instead of hiring a cleaning company and do not include it in a list of what to consider when planning their pool budget. Whether you complete the work yourself or not, there are sizable costs for chemicals and pool treatments. If you are cleaning your own pool, you also have to calculate the amount of time you will spend working on the pool every day and then plan accordingly.
